Whether it’s business or pleasure,
stop in at Fairbank Village and have a great day!

The 3rd Annual Fairbank Village Summer Fest will spice up the summer Saturday, August 21st & Sunday, August 22nd with a cultural celebration filled with family entertainment and fun for all. Enjoy international food and music, games, exciting rides and street performers. Local vendors will line the streets with a Back to School Sidewalk Sale Extravaganza …and much more!

“This is a great multicultural community and we are very proud of it,” says Enzo Torrone, Chair of the Fairbank Village BIA. “Our rapidly growing festival provide an opportunity for visitors and Torontonians to truly experience the diversity that the Dufferin and Eglinton West neighbourhood has to offer.”

Founded by Matthew Parsons in 1835 - then known as Fairbanks’s Farm - Fairbank Village is known as one of Toronto’s “lost villages.” Though Parsons was arrested briefly on suspicion of being a sympathizer of McKenzie’s Rebels, (he was freed because of lack of evidence) he was undeterred from developing his land. In 1874 the area’s first post office was established at the corner of Dufferin Avenue and Eglinton Street West. Another building that remains is the Fairbank United Church, on Dufferin Street, just south of Wingold Avenue. Now amalgamated into the City of Toronto, Fairbank Village is home to a plethora of cultural communities: Portuguese, Italian, Spanish, Caribbean, Vietnamese, Chinese, Greek, Pilipino, Cantonese and French!

Once confined to a parking lot, this year’s expanded festivities include various musical sites throughout the neighbourhood. The Fairbank Village Main Stage showcases bands on Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The musical line-up reflects the multicultural diversity of the area, featuring AJ Deboer, Hits Parade 2010, Dr. Draw, Havana Express and Lucho De Sedas. Street performers including the percussive “strolling” Escola de Samba, Claudio Santaluce, Imbayakunas, Erin McCallum, House of David Gang, Steel Band Joe & Traces Steel Band and much more, entertain the crowds on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m and on Sunday, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Back to School Sidewalk Sale Extravaganza will offer great shopping deals on everything from furniture to clothing, with prices bound to satisfy bargain shoppers looking for great back to school deals! Vendors, restaurants and cafes will offer cuisine from around the world - a chance to try some new food, or enjoy your favourites.

On Saturday, August 21st the fun kicks off at noon and continues until 11:00 p.m., and on Sunday, August 22nd, the merriment starts at noon and wraps up at 9:00 p.m. Everything happens along Eglinton Avenue West, west of Dufferin Street to Chamberlain Avenue, and on Dufferin Street from Hunter Avenue to Schell Avenue. There will be curb-lane closure from Dufferin Street to Chamberlain Avenue on Saturday commencing at noon until 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday from noon until 5:00 p.m. Come enjoy the international tastes, colourful sights and harmonious sounds that this cultural hub has to offer!
